Bri_Bri_Indigenous_Reserve_Chief_Don_Silverio The Bri Bri Indigenous Reserve Tour is a great way to spend a day experiencing the rich culture of Costa Rica. The tour lasts five to six hours making four different stops in the Tribe Reserve to: a family, a Medicinal Plantation, an exotic waterfall and a Cacao House.

The Bri Bri is an indigenous tribe found in the Southern Caribbean, Costa Rica. The tribe was originally living in the Talamanca Mountain range, primarily living off the land with no running water or electricity. The term “Bri Bri” represents the language, the tribe, the culture and the town. You will cross over a hanging bridge to visit the six-generation family of Chief Don Silverio who is believed to be the oldest Tico (Costa Rican) at 109.

You will learn how they farm, cook, and how their pre-Colombian homes were built from organic materials found in the surrounding forested areas. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take photos with the family.

The second stop on the Reserve is to a Medicinal Plantation where a Shaman will demonstrate and explain different trees, plants, fruits and vines that are used for medicinal purposes. The tribe have used a variety of different natural sources for healing purposes and also for prevention of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, etc. Although new age medicine has started to enter the culture, Shaman’s are still sought for their wisdom and experience. At the end of the Medicinal Plantation tour there is an opportunity to purchase arts and crafts as a souvenir.

Bri_Bri_Indigenous_Reserve_Exotic_Waterfall The next stop is an exotic waterfall on the reserve where you will hike 30 minutes through primary forest, crossing rivers to reach your beautiful destination. The waterfall was where the tribe used to performed rituals and ceremonies for purification and healing purposes. Although the water is no longer used for ceremonies, the area is still thought to cleanse the body. The water springs from the top of the Talamanca Mountain Range, dropping into a naturally formed swimming pool where you will have the opportunity to refresh yourself in the cool water. This part of the tour presents you with beautiful scenery and the chance to really admire the landscape of Costa Rica. During the hike you will have the opportunity to see the famous “Poisonous” Red Frog and the blue butterfly, which is sought after for luck and good health. The waterfall is the perfect photo to take home and show the natural beauty that Costa Rica has to offer.

Bri_Bri_Indigenous_Reserve_Organic_Chocolate After hiking to the waterfall you will stop in the town of Bri Bri to enjoy a delicious meal of “Comida Tipica” in a local setting and then it’s time for the final destination for dessert.
The last stop is the Cacao House where you will be given a demonstration of the traditional process of making organic chocolate that has been passed down from generation to generation for over 300 years. Cacao has been used in the lifestyle for healing, purification and medicinal purposes. At the end of the demonstration there will be time for questions and chocolate tasting. Organic chocolate makes for the perfect unique souvenir, bringing the rich flavor home.

Bri bri tour
Loved the Bri bri tour especially the medicinal shaman part. He was very knowledgeable and even tried to help solve my wife's insect bite problems. The waterfall was an added bonus. It was beautiful & very relaxing standing underneath the falls. Henning was our guide & he did everything right to make us feel very comfortable during the tour.

Wonderful tour!
This tour is one of the best things we did in Costa Rica. We had Jorge as guide, who was very well-informed and had a genuine interest in the subject. Even if 60 dollars per person seems a lot, it might be the most well-spent money of our lives.

Big up for this tour! Do NOT miss it!

Abwechslungsreiche Tour

Bon voyage a tous.
