Tours Bri Bri And Kekoldi Kekoldi Territory and Jungle Waterfall Hike
Kekoldi Iguana Farm and Waterfall
The Kekoldi Iguana Farm and Waterfall Tour is a half-day tour that still allows you to connect and immerse yourself into an indigenous culture and the beauty of Costa Rica.
The first stop is to the Kekoldi Iguana Farm, run by a Kekoldi Family which is an indigenous tribe related to the Bri Bri. The Iguana Farm was founded by a Canadian Foundation to prevent the extinction of the Green Iguanas. They were going close to extinction due to human consumption and being sold for house pets. The Kekoldi’s wanted to replenish and give back to the forest. Green Iguanas are anywhere from four to six feet in length, also ranging in colors from green to dullish gray.
They can be found in tropical rainforest areas starting in Mexico all the way down to southern Brazil. Typically you will find Green Iguanas basking in the sun since they are cold-blooded, meaning their body temperature corresponds with the weather, they gain warmth from being in the rays of the sun. Green Iguanas are also diurnal animals, meaning they are awake during the day and sleep at night.
The second stop is to the Family Art Gallery where traditional indigenous art making has been passed down through the generations. They aim to protect and conserve nature by using natural materials from the jungle including wood, palms, and seeds. The art is not sold in stores to preserve the cultural value of the family’s art. The second stop is to an exotic waterfall on the Bri Bri reserve where you will hike for 30 minutes through primary forest, crossing rivers to reach your beautiful destination. This waterfall was where the Bri Bri used to perform rituals and ceremonies for purification and healing purposes. The water springs from the top of the Talamanca Mountain Range, dropping into a naturally formed swimming pool where you will have the opportunity to refresh yourself in the cool water. This part of the tour presents you with beautiful scenery and the chance to really admire the landscape of Costa Rica. Along the hike you will have the opportunity to see the famous “Poisonous” Red Frog and the blue butterfly, which is sought after for luck and good health.
