Tortuguero is often referred to as “The Amazon of Central America” because of its abundance of wildlife. From the canals in Tortuguero, it is possible to see toucans, two fingered and three fingered sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys, caymans, crocodiles and many beautiful and exotic birds. The area is famous for turtle nesting, which occurs between early March through mid-October.

At Willies Tours Costa Rica we do our best to accommodate our clients needs. With that in mind we put together 3 transportation packages to Tortuguero National Park.

All three packages:
1. One way package
- A transportation package to Tortuguero picking up from either Cahuita or Puerto Viejo. The tour begins early in the morning picking you and your luggage up from your hotel. From there you will take an hour and fifteen minute private shuttle to Moin. After arriving in Moin, you will transfer to a boat for a four-hour ride through the canals until you reach your destination of Tortuguero. The Captain will answer questions regarding the area and point out wildlife along the way.

2. Round Trip Package
- A transportation package to Tortuguero picking up from either Cahuita or Puerto Viejo. The tour begins early in the morning picking you and your luggage up from your hotel. From there you will take an hour and fifteen minute private shuttle to Moin. After arriving in Moin, you will transfer to a boat for a four-hour ride through the canals until you reach your destination of Tortuguero. The Captain will answer questions regarding the area and point out wildlife along the way. You will return to Cahuita or Puerto Viejo the same way by boat and private shuttle. From Tortuguero you will take a four-hour boat ride to Moin. From Moin, you will be picked up by private shuttle for your return to Cahuita or Puerto Viejo.

3. Trip to Tortuguero and on to La Fortuna
- A transportation package to Tortuguero picking up from either Cahuita or Puerto Viejo. The tour begins early in the morning picking you and your luggage up from your hotel. From there you will take an hour and fifteen minute private shuttle to Moin. After arriving in Moin, you will transfer into a boat for a four-hour ride through the canals until you reach your destination of Tortuguero. The Captain will answer questions regarding the area and point out wildlife along the way. After your time in Tortuguero you will take a boat ride to Cariari. From Cariari you will be picked up by private shuttle to take you to your destination in La Fortuna.

For packages 2 and 3 it’s important for us to know your return/departure date 24 hours in advance. That way we can ensure that the transportation is arranged accordingly.

Typically, guests spend one to two nights in Tortuguero. Willie’s Tours Costa Rica can recommend lodging and guides based on your preferences. The most popular tours of the area include the Turtle Tours and the Canal Tours. The Turtle Tour begins at 9 o’clock at night, patrolling the beach for a total of four hours in hopes of seeing the Green Turtles of the Leatherback Turtles depending on their nesting season. The beaches are beautiful at night as they are lighted from the moon and many times with lighting shows in the distance. The Canal Tour begins early in the morning at 5:30, which is the best time to spot the large range of wildlife. Guides will report information about the wildlife and the national park. Additionally, the Tortuguero has beautiful beaches and hiking can be done in the National Park.

For The Tortuguero National Park Tour there is a two-person minimum. To ensure our clients satisfaction, we recommend making a reservation for this tour at least one day in advance.

- Cash for accommodations and tours (no ATM in Tortuguero)
- Luggage
- Passport
- Sunscreen
- Water (for the boat ride)
