Tortuguero is often called “The Amazon of Central America” because of its canals and abundance of wildlife. According to National Geographic, 5% of the world wildlife is found in Tortuguero. The area is also famous for turtle nesting which occurs between early June and mid-October.
The Package to Tortuguero is a great combination to experience two highlight areas of Costa Rica, for those who want to take full advantage of “the Costa Rican Amazon” and continue their travel going through La Fortuna-Arenal Volcano.
You will be picked up at your hotel in Cahuita at 8:30am by a private shuttle to go to the dock of Moín. Here, you will board a boat to reach Tortuguero village on a 4-hour trip through the canals where you will have a good chance of seeing toucans, Two-Fingered and Three-Fingered sloths, iguanas, Howler and Capuchin monkeys, caimans, crocodiles and many beautiful and exotic birds.
You will stay in a hotel with all modern conveniences and close to all services in Tortuguero village. You will enjoy a free afternoon exploring the Tortuguero National Park trails and beaches, visiting the Turtle Museum, discovering the atypical Tortuguero village through its small pedestrian streets and colorful wooden houses. In the evening, you will go for a guided night walk in the National Park to observe the turtle nesting, or on a private garden trail looking for fascinating insects and amphibians like the famous but scarce red eyed frog. Let you bewitch by the mysteries and sounds of the rainforest in the dark! Or you will opt for the canoe tour, an early morning trip by little wooden boats to be very close to the nature and have the best chances to observe animals.
The last morning, you will board a boat 9am for a 1-hour trip to La Pavona harbor where a private shuttle will be waiting for you to lead you to your destination in La Fortuna/Arenal, arriving at 3 pm.
